Fargo North Law and Justice students visited the Supreme Court on April 15, accompanied by their teacher Melissa Evensen. This marked the second time this year that Evensen has brought a group of students to observe an oral argument at the Supreme Court.

The visit aimed to give students insight into the judicial process and exposure to state government officials. During their trip, the students met with Secretary of State Michael Howe, Christopher Joseph, General Counsel to Governor Armstrong, as well as Justices Douglas Bahr and Mark Friese.

Students had several opportunities for interaction. Secretary of State Michael Howe spoke with them about voting, election security, and various responsibilities held by his office. Christopher Joseph described his role in the governor’s office and explained some of his duties as general counsel.

Justices Bahr and Friese shared information about how they develop decisions for cases before the court. The visit also included lunch on the 18th floor of the capitol building, attendance at oral arguments in court, and a brief stop at the House chamber.

The day concluded with a photo opportunity where members of the Law and Justice class posed alongside Justices Mark Friese (centered left) and Douglas Bahr (centered right).
