Justice Friese was formally installed as a member of the Supreme Court on May 1, during an investiture ceremony attended by colleagues, family, and state officials. The event marked the official beginning of Justice Friese’s service on the court.

The ceremony is significant as it welcomes a new justice to the state’s highest court, a position that plays an important role in interpreting laws and overseeing legal matters at the state level.

Chief Justice Lisa Fair McEvers led the proceedings, joined by Justices Jon J. Jensen and Jerod E. Tufte in welcoming attendees to the event. Debra L. Hoffarth, President of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, presented Justice Friese with his judicial robe. Justice Friese’s wife, RoxAnne, assisted with his official robing.

Governor Kelly Armstrong spoke about his decision to appoint Justice Friese to the Supreme Court bench. U.S. District Chief Judge Peter D. Welte also made remarks during the ceremony. Attorney Bruce D. Quick shared experiences from working alongside Justice Friese in their legal careers.

Chief Justice McEvers delivered additional remarks reflecting on the importance of service and dedication within the judiciary.

In his address, Justice Friese expressed gratitude for those who influenced his life and career—including family members and professional colleagues—thanking them for their support as he begins this new chapter.
