Attorney General Drew Wrigley of North Dakota has issued a Cease & Desist Order against Prairie Abortion Fund, a nonprofit based in Fargo. The order alleges that the organization is promoting and facilitating the unlawful sale of abortion pills within the state.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Prairie Abortion Fund violated North Dakota Consumer Fraud Law by promoting and enabling the sale of products that are counterfeit, unapproved, untested, misbranded, or misrepresented. The order also states that the group facilitated sales without required prescriptions and promoted unsupervised use of medications that legally require physician oversight.

“These actions pose a significant health risk to pregnant women and facilitate the violation of North Dakota’s healthcare requirements, in part, by taking doctors out of the equation,” said Attorney General Wrigley.

The Attorney General’s office further alleges that Prairie Abortion Fund operates a website linking to other sites selling unapproved abortion pills without prescription or medical supervision. “As a North Dakota nonprofit corporation, by referring and actively linking to websites that unlawfully sells products, Prairie Abortion Fund lends credibility and trustworthiness to unlawful websites that otherwise would look much more suspicious,” Wrigley stated.

Wrigley added: “Our BCI was able to purchase abortion pills from websites promoted by Prairie Abortion Fund without providing any health information and without providing any verification of identity or age.”

The Cease & Desist Order requires Prairie Abortion Fund to immediately stop promoting or linking to organizations or websites involved in these alleged unlawful practices.

A copy of the order was made available with the announcement.
