The North Dakota Court System announced on Apr. 8 that it has become aware of scam messages falsely claiming to be from the North Dakota Department of Transportation and the court system.
The announcement is important because it alerts residents to fraudulent communications that may attempt to obtain money or personal information under false pretenses.
According to the court system, these scam messages may claim recipients owe fines or costs for overdue tickets and demand immediate payment. The court system said, “The court system will never call, text or email you to demand immediate payment or threaten you with additional fines and costs for an overdue ticket. Any such message is a SCAM.”
Residents who have questions about a court case or outstanding payments are advised by the court system to contact their local clerk of court directly using official telephone numbers, or visit the official website at www.ndcourts.gov.
The warning comes as similar scams have been reported in other regions, highlighting ongoing concerns about fraudulent attempts targeting individuals through digital communication channels.
As scams continue to evolve, officials urge caution when responding to unsolicited requests for payment and recommend verifying any suspicious communication through official sources.
