The North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services (ND HHS) is seeking to hire two Attorney II positions for its Legal Division. These roles are primarily focused on providing legal counsel in areas such as reviewing contracts, memoranda of understanding, requests for proposals, terms and conditions, and software agreements. The attorneys will also advise on the contracting process and capital improvements.

According to the department, those selected will be responsible for analyzing inquiries, gathering relevant information, issuing legal opinions, researching laws and regulations, and communicating with other attorneys and judges. Additional duties include drafting analyses and participating in special projects.

Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor degree and have at least two years of experience practicing law. A current license to practice law in North Dakota is required.

ND HHS describes its mission as aiming “to make North Dakota the healthiest state in the nation by reinforcing the foundations of well-being: physical, economic, and behavioral.” The agency notes that services are delivered locally whenever possible with an emphasis on dignity and respect. ND HHS employs approximately 2,800 staff members and manages more than $6 billion from nearly 200 funding sources.

The positions offer flexibility through a blended workplace model; successful candidates may work either from the Bismarck office or remotely within North Dakota or neighboring communities during regular business hours.
