The North Dakota Office of Attorney General is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General. The job, based at the State Capitol in Bismarck, offers a salary range between $81,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience. Applications will be accepted until February 13, 2026.

The Assistant Attorney General will provide legal counsel to North Dakota colleges and universities, offering advice on state and federal laws and assisting with contract review and negotiation. Responsibilities include representing clients in legal matters, researching state and federal legal issues, reviewing administrative rules for legality, drafting formal opinions for the Attorney General, attending meetings as needed, and assisting with legislative matters.

Candidates must be licensed or expect imminent licensure to practice law in North Dakota. Two or more years of relevant experience are preferred but not required. Applicants should demonstrate high ethical standards, confidentiality skills, strong communication abilities, organizational skills, knowledge of government regulations, and the capacity to explain complex legal concepts clearly.

The position includes fully paid health insurance for employees and their families as well as other benefits such as retirement plan participation options and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). The work environment emphasizes collaboration and flexibility.
