The North Dakota Supreme Court announced on Apr. 23 that it has issued notices of adoption for several amendments and new rules affecting court procedures across the state.

These changes are significant as they impact a range of administrative orders, procedural rules, and policies governing court operations in North Dakota. The updates address various aspects of judicial procedure, from administrative processes to municipal court implementation.

According to the announcement, three main matters were addressed. The first concerns amendments to the North Dakota Supreme Court Administrative Orders, Administrative Rules, Rules of Court, Rules of Juvenile Procedure, Rules for Lawyer Discipline, Rule on Procedural Rules and Administrative Orders of the Supreme Court, and Administrative Policies. The second matter involves amendments to the Supreme Court Administrative Rules; Rule of Criminal Procedure; Rules of Civil Procedure; as well as the adoption of a new Rule of Court designed to implement North Dakota Century Code Section 40-18.1 regarding municipal courts. The third matter relates to an amendment to Rule 10 of Appellate Procedure concerning records on appeal.

The notice states that these adoptions have been made under N.D.R.Proc.R. Section 7.

The broader implications include potential changes in how cases are processed at different levels within North Dakota’s judicial system and updated guidance for practitioners navigating these procedures.
