The United States District Court for the District of North Dakota announced on Apr. 2 a job opening for a full-time Case Administrator I in its Clerk of Court office located in Fargo. The application deadline is April 13, and the estimated start date is May.

This position is important as it supports the management and accuracy of court records, which are essential to court operations and public access to legal proceedings.

The salary range for this role is $44,701 to $72,654 per year, with pay determined by experience and previous salary history. There is also potential for non-competitive promotion to higher-level case administrator positions based on merit and performance. The successful applicant will report to the Deputy-in-Charge.

Key duties include receiving and reviewing legal documents filed with the court, issuing civil and criminal process such as summonses or subpoenas, preparing searches of court cases, providing information to the public and attorneys regarding case status, creating electronic dockets using specialized software (CM/ECF), processing appeals, handling cash receipts, making deposits, traveling between district offices as needed, and performing other assigned tasks.

Applicants must have at least a two-year college degree; however, relevant experience in a legal or court setting may substitute for education requirements. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong data entry skills; effective communication with judges, attorneys, colleagues and members of the public; teamwork abilities; proficiency in word processing software; email; PDF applications; and willingness to learn CM/ECF electronic filing systems.

The position includes federal government benefits such as leave time, insurance options, retirement plans and requires mandatory direct deposit of paychecks. It does not provide tenure rights under competitive Civil Service rules but follows equal employment opportunity guidelines established by an Employment Dispute Resolution Plan.

Interested candidates must submit a cover letter addressing qualifications and interest in federal courts work along with their resume, three professional references and a completed AO-78 Application form (available at https://www.uscourts.gov/forms-rules/forms/application-judicial-branch-federal-employment) via email in PDF format to [email protected]. Applications will be kept confidential.
