The University of North Dakota Pre-Law Society visited the state capitol in Bismarck on April 8, meeting with Governor Kelly Armstrong and members of the North Dakota Supreme Court. The visit included discussions with Justices Jerod Tufte, Douglas Bahr, Mark Friese, and Law Clerk Peter Liffrig.
During their time at the court, the justices talked about different areas of law that attorneys may pursue and described how judges and justices decide cases. They also discussed what it is like to work in their offices and addressed challenges lawyers face in maintaining a positive work-life balance.
Society members asked questions about preparing for law school as well as the experiences the justices had while becoming licensed attorneys. Justice Jerod Tufte answered questions from society members during the session. Justice Friese explained his educational experience while attending law school.
The group photo featured UND Pre-Law Society officers Allan Martinez (President), Madeline Larson (Membership Chair), Finley Larson (Law School Liaison), Professor Benjamin Kassow, along with several student members including Allie Berg, Evan Darnell, Zoie Frattin, Reese Goodman, Ben Guthmiller, Peyton Kveno, Maria Lee, Meredith McCarthy, Nadir Mohamed, and Carlaen Mukpik.
Events such as this visit provide students interested in legal careers an opportunity to learn directly from those serving on the bench.
